SRINAGAR, Feb 8: Senior BJP leader and the party’s general secretary in Jammu and Kashmir, Ashok Koul, today said that the spike in terrorist attacks in Pakistan shows the country is “paying for its deeds” and predicted that it would eventually disintegrate.

Talking to reporters in Baramulla, Koul said Pakistan had, for decades, sponsored violence in Jammu and Kashmir and was now facing the consequences of its actions. “I had said earlier that if someone digs a pit for others, one day he will fall into it himself. The pits that Pakistan has dug for us in the last 30 years in Jammu and Kashmir, after massacring many people and continuously committing terrorist acts, they have to bear the consequences of that,” he said.
Referring to the recent blast inside a mosque, Koul said the incident was “heart-wrenching” because it occurred at a holy place and injured several people. He welcomed protests in Jammu and Kashmir against the attack and said anger against Pakistan was justified.
Koul claimed Pakistan’s internal security situation was deteriorating, citing unrest in Balochistan and the changing dynamics with the Taliban. “The Taliban they were raising earlier are today meeting India. Balochistan, which they nurtured, has become a big disaster for them. What we hear is that Pakistan’s army is suffering huge losses. You will see in the future that Pakistan will break,” he added.
Koul criticised the National Conference (NC) over what he described as unfulfilled promises made ahead of the 2024 Assembly elections. “They had promised 12 free LPG cylinders per year to every family and 200 units of free electricity. Today they are talking about giving six cylinders only to AAY beneficiaries, and even that has not happened,” he said.
Koul also questioned the NC’s explanation that some promises could not be implemented because Jammu and Kashmir is now a Union Territory. “They can make a person who lost the election a cabinet minister and give a state award to his son, but they say they cannot fulfil people’s promises because it is a UT. What kind of logic is this?” he said.
On speculation about an MLA from north Kashmir possibly joining the BJP, Koul said his party would welcome anyone who believes in its ideology. “If he thinks BJP will win in the future and wants to join us, we will welcome him. I think good about him and believe he should join BJP,” he added.
