JAMMU, Feb 7: A guidance and counselling programme for candidates preparing for the Judicial Services, organized jointly by the Elite Law Institute (ELI) in collaboration with SR College of Competitions (SRCC) was held here today.
The programme was aimed at equipping candidates with a clear understanding of the interview process conducted by the Public Service Commission, Jammu & Kashmir.The session was conducted by B R Sharma, former Chief Secretary to the Government of Jammu & Kashmir and former Chairperson of the Public Service Commission, who shared valuable insights drawn from his vast administrative and institutional experience.
He explained the expectations of the interview board, the importance of judicial temperament, clarity of thought, integrity and balanced decision-making.
During the interactive session, several practical interview-related queries were discussed.
Candidates were guided on how to present their hobbies meaningfully, with emphasis on honesty, consistency and the ability to link hobbies with personality traits relevant to judicial service.
Sharma also addressed questions raised by candidates pursuing higher academic qualifications, including PhD scholars and explained how such candidates should clearly articulate their motivation for choosing a judicial career, highlighting commitment to public service rather than academic credentials alone.
Other issues discussed included handling situational and ethical questions, responding confidently to questions from one’s educational background, managing stress during interviews and maintaining composure while answering probing questions from the board. The session proved highly interactive, with candidates receiving practical, experience-based guidance on how to approach common and critical interview questions.
