3 arrested as two drug peddling bids foiled

UDHAMPUR, Feb 7: A police team from Police Station Chenani foiled two separate drug peddling attempts during routine traffic checking on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, leading to the arrest of three persons and recovery of heroin.
In the first incident, police intercepted a black Maruti Suzuki Alto K-10 (Registration No. JK03J-1421) at Naka Point Motor Shed during checking of vehicles moving from Udhampur towards Kashmir. Two persons were travelling in the vehicle. The driver was identified as Saqib Nisar, son of Nisar Ahmad Shah of Wanihama, Anantnag, while the co-passenger was identified as Nadeem Ahmed Khan, son of Ghulam Nabi Khan of Nai Basti, Anantnag.
During their personal search, police recovered heroin weighing 10.81 grams from Saqib Nisar and 10.92 grams from Nadeem Ahmed Khan. They were arrested on the spot, and a case under FIR Number 19/2026, under Sections 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act, was registered at Police Station Chenani.
In another instance, while checking vehicles moving from Jammu towards Kashmir, police stopped a white Tempo Traveller bearing Registration Number JK01AW-9300. During frisking of passengers, one individual identified as Tariq Ahmad Sheikh, son of Mohammad Akram Sheikh of Nursing Garh, Srinagar, was found in possession of 4.94 grams of heroin.
The accused was arrested on the spot, and a separate case under FIR Number 20/2026, under Sections 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act, was registered at Police Station Chenani.
Police said further investigation is underway in both cases to ascertain the source and intended destination of the recovered narcotics.
