JAMMU, Feb 7: Senior leader of Apni Party, inchrage Anantnag East constituency (Shangus), M.K. Yogi, today called on the Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner (M) (RRC) and held discussed various pressing issues related to the migrant community with him.
During the meeting, Yogi raised key concerns including NFSA-related issues, drinking water scarcity at Jagti Township, conditions of transit accommodations in various migrant camps, and arrangements for the forthcoming festival of Maha Shivratri.
In view of the steep rise in prices of essential commodities, Yogi strongly urged the authorities to release the advance month’s relief so that relief holders may celebrate Maha Shivratri with dignity. He also demanded enhancement of relief, keeping in mind the increasing cost of living.
He further stressed the need for proper arrangements of essential commodities for Maha Shivratri at all migrant camps as well as non-camp areas, including Durga Nagar, Bhantalab, Bohri, Gole Gujral, and other migrant-populated localities, so that no family is left unattended during the festival.
Yogi highlighted that in several cases the names of family members could not be deleted from ration cards due to death of members or marriage of daughters because of unavoidable circumstances. He requested the administration to initiate a one-time amnesty, enabling families to delete such names and become eligible to apply under NFSA.
He also demanded that the ration system be made optional, allowing relief holders to choose between ration or cash assistance as per their convenience.
Yogi leader emphasized the urgent requirement of medical security, fair price shops, and other essential facilities at all migrant camps in Jammu as well as in the Kashmir Valley, ensuring uniform access to basic services.
Yogi also raised the issue of Delhi migrants, stating that the file forwarded by the Chief Minister of Delhi should be cleared on priority by the LG’s Delhi Office.
He further demanded that matters related to bifurcation, deletion, and addition of family members in official records should be processed on priority basis.
The Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner assurance that the issues raised during the meeting would be taken up on priority and examined sympathetically.
Among others present in the meeting were Vijay Kumar Sharma, Deputy Commissioner (Relief), and Kunal Sharma, Tehsildar.
