JAMMU, Feb 7: Ashok Samyal, has been elevated to the rank of Inspector General in the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). As per the handout issued on Saturday, hailing from village Gho Brahamana, Vijaypur, District Samba, Jammu and Kashmir, IG Samyal, son of Mani Ram Samyal, with 35 years of exemplary service, joined the force February 4, 1991 and served in some of the challenging internal security environments of the country, including Punjab during the militancy period, Jammu and Kashmir and Left Wing Extremism-affected areas, besides holding key command, training, and staff appointments across India.
“The journey of IG Samyal from rural Jammu to the senior leadership of the nation’s largest central armed police force stands as a testimony to dedication, discipline, and perseverance,” said a family member. The rank was formally conferred during a ceremonial pipping by the Director General, CRPF, Gyanendra Pratap Singh in New Delhi.
“A significant part of his career has been devoted to training and institution building. He served as Principal of the Central Training College (CTC), and the Recruit Training Centre (RTC), Neemuch, and had the rare distinction of being the last Principal of CTC Neemuch in the rank of Deputy Inspector General,” a family member said in a handout.
The officer has also played a pivotal role in raising the first CIAT School of CRPF at Udharbond, Silchar, thereby strengthening the Force’s counter-insurgency training capability. His distinguished service has been recognised with several prestigious honours, including the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service (2025) and the Police Medal for Meritorious Service (2014).
He has also received Bronze, Silver, and Gold Discs from the DG CRPF, along with multiple Commendations and Letters from the top brass and the union Home Minister, reflecting sustained excellence and professional merit throughout his career. A trained mountaineer, IG Samyal was a member of the First Indigenous CRPF Mountain Expedition and successfully summited Jogin Peak in the Himalayas, exemplifying courage, endurance, and leadership beyond operational duties.
An alumni of Shri Ranbir Memorial Learners Higher Secondary School, SPMR College of Commerce, Jammu, and a law graduate from the University of Jammu, IG Samyal is presently posted in Delhi. However, the locals have expressed happiness and congratulated him on his elevation to one of the top ranks in the country’s one of the professional forces.
