Kerala, J&K share deep spiritual and cultural bonds: Governor Arlekar

KERALA, Feb 4: Kerala Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar today said that Kerala and Jammu and Kashmir are linked by deep spiritual and cultural bonds that go beyond geography and time.
He was interacting with a media delegation from Jammu and Kashmir at Lok Bhavan during their visit to the State.
The interaction was part of a media tour organised by the Press Information Bureau (PIB), Srinagar, under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
The delegation is on a five-day visit to Kerala as part of PIB’s media outreach programme.
Highlighting Kerala’s rich spiritual and cultural heritage, the Governor referred to the historic connection between the two regions through Adi Shankaracharya.
He said the philosopher-saint, born in Kerala, is believed to have established the Sharada Peetha in Srinagar, which stands as a strong symbol of the age-old civilisational ties between Kerala and Kashmir.
The Governor noted that such shared heritage reflects the unity and cultural continuity of the country.
Members of the media delegation expressed appreciation for Kerala’s warm hospitality during their visit.
They said they were impressed by the State’s cleanliness, efficient public transport system and overall civic sense. The visiting journalists described their experience in Kerala as enriching and informative.
The delegation comprised 14 members, including two officers and 12 journalists from Jammu and Kashmir.
As a gesture of goodwill, the Governor presented commemorative mementoes to the delegation members.
In return, the delegation honoured the Governor with a traditional Kashmiri shawl and a samovar, symbolising the cultural heritage of Jammu and Kashmir.
The delegation was accompanied by V Palanichamy, Additional Director General, Press Information Bureau, and Majid Pandit, Media and Communication Officer, PIB Srinagar.
The visit concluded with the delegation extending an invitation to the Governor to visit Jammu and Kashmir.
As part of the same tour, the media delegation also visited the Press Information Bureau office at Thiruvananthapuram, where they interacted with senior PIB officials and discussed the role of PIB in government communication and media outreach.
