RAMBAN, Feb 3: A devastating fire here today badly damaged two residential houses in Koot area of Tehsil Khari.
According to officials, fire erupted at around 12:30 pm and rapidly spread, engulfing the houses belonging to Abdul Qayoom Naik and Yasir Ahmed Naik, sons of Atta Mohammad Naik, both residents of Koot Khari.
All the household items including ration stocked for winter season reduced to ash.
Due to the area’s remote location and lack of motorable road connectivity, fire tenders failed to immediately reach the spot.
Immediately after knowing about the fire, local of Koot and Urka villages, particularly women, made strenuous efforts to control the blaze using water-filled utensils.
Cops from Khari, along with volunteers of Quick Response Team Khari rushed to the spot and assisted in fire fighting efforts.
Before the fire was doused, it had inflicted massive damage to both the double storey houses.
Locals have demanded compensation in favour of the affected families.
They also demanded establishment of a fire station at Tehsil Headquarters Khari.
