11 bovines rescued, two smugglers arrested

UDHAMPUR, Feb 1: Police foiled a bovine smuggling attempt at Motor Shed Naka under the jurisdiction of Police Station Chenani and rescued 11 bovine animals besides arresting two smugglers.
A police party of PS Chenani intercepted an Oil Tanker bearing registration number HR55X- 2334 for checking. During inspection, 11 bovines were found laden inside the tanker in a cruel manner.
During enquiry, the driver and his associate disclosed their names as Jufran, son of Ikram, resident of Saharanpur,(UP) and Mohd Shakeel, son of Abdul Gani, resident of R S Pura, Jammu. The accused failed to produce any valid permission for transporting the bovines, following which both of them were arrested.
Police rescued all the bovines and seized the vehicle. Accordingly, a case FIR No. 15/2026 under Sections 223 BNS and 11 PCA Act has been registered at Police Station Chenani and further investigation is underway.
