JAMMU Jan 31: On his 103rd birth anniversary, the Dogra Brahman Pratinidhi Sabha in a function held under the chairmanship of its president Ved Parkash Sharma, paid rich tribute to Major Somnath Sharma, the first recipient of Paramvir Chakra (PVC) of Independent India in 1947 who attained martyrdom while fighting Pakistan army supported tribals in Kashmir.
Speaking on the occasion senior BJP leader and Jammu East MLA Yudhvir Sethi who was the chief guest at the well-attended function, urged the youth to follow the footsteps of martyrs who died for safeguarding the sovereignty of India and fought against enemy.
While paying rich tribute to Major Somnath Sharma former IAS officer BD Sharma Retired Col. Dr Adarsh Sharma said that Major Somnath Sharma’s sacrifice is written in the annals of gold in the history of India.
Tawi Bachao Andolan president, Chander Mohan Sharma said that on 3rd November 1947, Army official including representatives from 4th Battalion of Kumaon Regiment regularly pay homage to Major Somnath Sharma at the “Saviours of Kashmir” war memorial near Srinagar Airport where he martyred fighting in 1947. Sharma also demanded that Srinagar Airport be named after memory of great hero Major Somnath Sharma.
DBPS Chairman former Additional Advocate General PC Sharma, former Deputy Commissioner BS Jamwal, NMC president Subash Shastri, Sunil Sharma and Baba Bhair Dev Sthan Trust general secretary Ramesh Sharma, Jagdish Dogra Ex-president Sanathan Dharam Sabha, former Corporators JMC and many others from various organizations paid tribute to Maj Somnath.
Dogri Sanstha president Lalit Magotra was felicitated by the Sabha on this occasion.
Earlier the function was started with Havan and patriotic song, where a large number of people from different walks of life participated.
The function was concluded with the vote of thanks by the former JMC Commissioner Saujanya Sharma.
