US expanding coalition of Pax Silica partners, welcomes Qatar, UAE, anticipates India

WASHINGTON, Jan 30 : The United States is extending the list of countries that partner with it on Pax Silica, with Qatar and the UAE already welcomed in the agreement, and India to become an awaited member in February, US Under Secretary of State for Economic Affairs Jacob Helberg said on Thursday.

Pax Silica is US-led coalition focused on economic security in the age of artificial intelligence (AI). The initiative views compute, silicon, minerals, and energy as shared strategic assets.

Australia, Israel, Japan, South Korea, Qatar, UAE, Singapore, and the UK have already signed the declaration, and India will join as a signatory next month, the US State Department announced earlier in January.

“We’re rapidly expanding this coalition of capable partners. We were pleased to welcome Qatar and the UAE to the partnership two weeks ago, and we look forward to welcoming India next month,” Helberg stated at Hudson Institute.

Simultaneously, the United States is holding discussions with other partners in different regions, including Europe, Asia, and the Western Hemisphere, the official said.

Washington should keep in mind that the supply chains of the AI revolution are being weaponized by its adversaries as tools of political coercion, and dependency is being used as a leash, Helberg added.
