Stresses on social unity, character building

KATHUA, Jan 29: – Senior RSS Pracharak and All India joint general secretary, Dr. Krishna Gopal, asserted that India’s path to regaining its historical glory lies in social unity, character building, and vigilance against internal threats like the rising drug menace.
Addressing a massive gathering of youth at the ‘Tarun Swayamsevak Ektrikaran’ held today, Dr. Krishna Gopal dismantled colonial myths regarding India’s history. Citing renowned historians like Angus Maddison and J.T. Sunderland, he highlighted that India was historically a manufacturing powerhouse, contributing over 30% of global GDP.
The event, organized by the Student Working Division of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (Kathua Nagar) as part of the Sangh’s centenary celebrations, witnessed the participation of thousands of Swayamsevaks aged 16–35, including students, doctors, engineers, and young professionals.
“India has always been a civilizational giver,” he stated. “We gave the world mathematics, the concept of zero, grammar, anatomy, and metallurgy without ever invading or exploiting another nation. In contrast, invaders came here only to plunder.”
He further cited Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s Constituent Assembly speech to remind the youth that democracy is not a Western gift; India had flourishing republics like Vaishali centuries before Christ, and Lord Buddha championed the values of liberty, equality, and fraternity long before the West.
Dr. Krishna Gopal drew a sharp contrast between the colonial era—where indigenous education and industry were destroyed—and modern India. He noted that from having only a handful of universities in 1947, India now boasts over 1,000, and has emerged as the world’s second-largest steel producer, surpassing Germany and France combined.
“While the nation is progressing in every field, we are witnessing a disturbing trend of drug addiction,” Dr. Gopal warned. “It is unfortunate that certain selfish elements within our own society are dragging the youth into this quagmire for personal profit. This is a challenge we must fight collectively. A drug-free, character-rich youth is essential for a strong nation.”
