SAMBA, Jan 28: Apni Party provincial president, Jammu, and former Minister, Manjit Singh today urged the National Conference (NC) Government to fulfill the promises made to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
“Omar Abdullah-led Government has completed almost one and a half years in office. However, it has failed to fulfill the promises made to the people,” the former Minister said while addressing a workers’ meeting at Vijaypur near here.
The meeting was held to discuss issues faced by the people in Vijaypur area of Samba district.
Addressing the meeting, Manjit Singh said that people have complaints regarding developmental issues and poor basic amenities in their respective areas of Vijaypur, Samba, and across the Jammu region.
“These issues have emerged even though an elected Government is in power and is ruling Jammu and Kashmir single-handedly. However, it appears to be incompetent and unable to fulfill the promises made to the people,” he added.
He recalled how both the BJP and the NC made promises during the Assembly elections and created a divide between the two regions while vowing development, employment, free electricity up to certain units, and a free flow of funds.
“The unscheduled power cuts, unemployment, and poor basic amenities in cities, towns, and villages have become glaring examples of the failure of the elected Government in Samba district and other places in the Jammu region,” he said.
He further stated that unemployed youth have lost faith in the Government, and as a result, brain drain has started in J&K, with many searching for jobs outside the UT.
He also recalled what he termed as false promises made by the NC regarding the restoration of statehood to J&K , which remains a distant dream.
“The leaders of the NC hardly refer to the restoration of Statehood, fearing backlash from the people,” he alleged.
However, he expressed hope that the Government would consider the suffering of the people and work for their welfare during its remaining years in power.
He also criticised the BJP and the Central Government for leaving the people of Jammu without proper representation despite elected MLAs, most of whom are from the Jammu plains.
