Russian UAC, Indian HAL companies sign agreement on production of SJ-100 aircraft

MOSCOW, Jan 28 : Russia’s United Aircraft Corporation (UAC, part of the Rostec state corporation) and Indian state corporation Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) signed an agreement on Wednesday on joint activities to license the production of SJ-100 aircraft, a Sputnik  reported.

The signing of the agreement took place on the sidelines of the Wings India 2026 exhibition, which saw the world premiere of the Il-114 and SJ-100 aircraft earlier in the day. The Russian corporation said that the agreement would serve as a basis for further cooperation between HAL and UAC on the project to license the production of Superjets in India.

“In particular, the document formalizes an agreement that HAL will assist UAC in the process of obtaining and validating Superjet type certification in India. HAL will be granted a license to manufacture and sell the SJ-100, including its components, parts, and accessories necessary for the repair and maintenance of this aircraft,” the UAC spokesperson said.

Meanwhile, UAC will help HAL organize and re-equip its production facilities for the SJ-100 by providing consulting, design services and bringing in specialists, the corporation added.

“The signing of this document is an essential step towards concluding a general agreement that sets out the roadmap, timeframe, financial indicators, and detailed distribution of the respective work efforts of the parties,” UAC added.

The SJ-100 is a short-haul narrow-body aircraft being developed under a program to replace imported systems and components. The airliner will become another model in the family of the currently operated Superjet-type aircraft.

The SJ aircraft made its first flight with the Russian PD-8 engine in the city of Komsomolsk-on-Amur on March 17, 2025. The start of serial deliveries is scheduled for 2026.
