Jaya announces Rs 5 cr assistance for flood-ravaged J&K

CHENNAI :  Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa today announced an assistance of Rs five crore to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, which was ravaged by floods and landslides.
In a statement here she said, the unprecedented floods and  landslides in Jammu and Kashmir have caused extensive damage to property and have taken a heavy toll of lives.    She promised to render all assistance to the hill state.    “This has also caused untold suffering to the people of the state and tourists visiting Jammu and Kashmir,” she said.    Ms Jayalalithaa said the Centre has declared the flood situation in Jammu and Kashmir as a national-level disaster and the Army has evacuated more than 15,000 people from inundated areas across the state.
“On behalf of the state government and people of Tamil Nadu, I convey my heartfelt condolences to the family members of all those who have lost their lives in the colossal tragedy,” she said.
Ms Jayalalithaa said Jammu and Kashmir is faced with the arduous task of ensuring immediate rescue, relief and rehabilitation measures for the flood-ravaged areas and reconstruction of the devastated areas in the coming days.    “As a token of the support and solidarity of the Government and people of Tamil Nadu with the Government and people of Jammu and Kashmir in their hour of need, I have ordered the immediate contribution of a sum of Rs five crore from the Chief Minister’s Public Relief Fund to the Jammu and Kashmir government,” she said.
“The Tamil Nadu government stands ready to render any other assistance as may be required by the Jammu and Kashmir government,” she added.
