SRINAGAR, Jan 25: Police in Sopore have secured convictions in three cases of underage driving, with the court holding the parents accountable and directing authorities not to issue driving licenses to the offending minors until they turn 25.
Officials said three vehicles, bearing registration numbers JK05P-5708, JK05N-1830, and JK05K-2552, were being driven by minors without valid driving documents.
“The vehicles were seized by police and challaned before the Court of DMMT Sopore under relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act,” they said.
Following the court proceedings, the registered owners-the parents of the minors-were convicted under the Motor Vehicles Act.
Authorities added that the registrations of the involved vehicles have been suspended for 12 months.
The convicted owners were released on probation, while the ARTO has been directed not to issue driving licenses to the concerned minors until they reach 25 years of age, in accordance with the law.
Police have urged parents and guardians to strictly discourage underage driving, warning that allowing minors behind the wheel not only violates the law but also poses serious risks to life and public safety.
