Mohd Hussain Khaloo gets LG Gold Medal

LEH, Jan 25: The Union Territory Administration of Ladakh has announced the recipients of the 6th State Awards for the year 2025, to be conferred on the occasion of Republic Day, 2026, in recognition of outstanding contributions across diverse fields including bravery, literature, social reform, public service, entrepreneurship and sports.
According to an order in this regard, sanction has been accorded for granting the prestigious awards to 13 individuals and organisations who have rendered exemplary service to society.
In the Bravery category, the award has been conferred posthumously on Tashi Namgail of Garkhon, Kargil, while Anayatullah, Dy SP, Headquarters Kargil, has also been selected for his courageous service.
Under the Literature, Art and Craft category, the awardees include Konchok Rigzin of Phobrang, Leh; Thuptan Shanfan of Leh; and Dr Padma Gurmet of Leh, for their significant contributions in preserving and promoting Ladakh’s rich cultural and literary heritage.
For outstanding work in Social Reforms, Empowerment and Environment Protection, Muzammil Hussain of Kargil and Kunzes Dolma of Leh have been selected for the State Award.
In the Public Service category, the honours will be bestowed upon Sonam Lotus, Scientist-F, resident of Shara, Leh and Vishal Atri, JKAS officer and SDM Drass.
The Entrepreneurship and Progressive Farming award will be shared by Yangchan Dolma of Saboo, Leh, and Ladakh Organic & Green Initiative Consultancy, Bemathang, Kargil, headed by Er Ahmad Ali.
In the field of Sports, Mohd Abbas Nordakh of Leh and Abida Afreen of Chuchot, Leh, have been selected for the State Award.
Each awardee, or in case of posthumous recognition, their family representative, will be presented with a cash award of Rs 51,000, a medal and a citation. The presentation of medals and citations will be held at a separate function to be organised by the UT Administration.
Meanwhile, senior journalist, media entrepreneur & Founder Kargil Today Network, Mohd Hussain Khaloo has been honoured with the newly instituted Lieutenant Governor’s (LG) Gold Medal for his exceptional contribution to the field of media, particularly electronic media, and his dedicated public service in Kargil district.
Mohd Hussain Khaloo is the first person from Kargil to establish a local media network, launching “Kargil Today”, initially through cable television and later expanding it into a digital media platform. He is also President of Press Club Ladakh, Kargil.
