He was produced in the Bandra court with his face completely covered using a black cloth. Two policemen were holding him by the arms as he was led away, while several onlookers and members of the media were present outside the court.
While moving the remand application, police said that the accused was arrested in a serious crime therefore his custodial interrogation is necessary, hence he should be remanded to police custody.
KRK lawyer opposed the police request and denied the charges levelled against the actor.
Lawyer told the court that the weapon seized has a range of only 20 metres while the bulliet was recovered from a distance of 400 mts hence the allegations are baseless.
According to police, a bullet was recovered between the two buildings where the actor resides, which is a distance of 400 mts.
After hearing both the sides, the court granted police custody.
KRK, a prime suspect in the case, was detained by the police last night and during interrogation he admitted that the firing was done using his licensed firearm.
Police have seized his weapon and it was sent to a forensic laboratory for a ballistic expert report, which will help to solve the crime and to determine how a weapon was used, and link suspects to crime scenes by matching unique microscopic markings left by guns, official said.
Soon after the offence was registered a parallel investigation by local Oshiwara police station and Mumbai Crime Branch was conducted.
During interrogation after examining the CCTV footage and with the help of a forensic team, police concluded that the bullets may have been fired from KRK’s bungalow located nearby.
Based upon that, KRK was detained and during interrogation he said that he did not intend to harm anyone.
He claimed that he was cleaning his licensed gun and fired shots to check it, assuming the bullets would land in a nearby mangrove area. However, due to strong winds, the bullets allegedly travelled further and struck the residential building.
Further legal procedure is underway, police added. (UNI)
