“Multi-Layered Security In Place Across Kashmir Ahead Of Republic Day”: IGP Kashmir

SRINAGAR, Jan 23: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, V.K. Birdi, on Friday said that elaborate and multi-layered security arrangements have been put in place across the Kashmir Valley ahead of Republic Day celebrations on January 26.
Speaking to reporters after paying tribute to martyrs at the Balidan Stambh, IGP Birdi said, “As you know, the Republic Day event will be held across the entire Kashmir zone. Main functions will take place in different districts where chief guests will receive the salute.”
He said that the visit to Balidan Stambh was to pay homage to the martyrs. “It is an important occasion to remember and honour our martyrs. After this, the main Republic Day function will be held at Bakshi Stadium, where police personnel, school children and members of the public will participate in the parade,” he said.
Replying to a query on security arrangements, the IGP said, “There are multi-layered security arrangements across the Valley, especially in Srinagar city. The security wing of Jammu and Kashmir Police, along with paramilitary forces, has further tightened the security grid to ensure peaceful celebrations.”
He expressed confidence that the arrangements in place would ensure smooth and incident-free Republic Day functions across Kashmir. (KNC)
