CM Omar Abdullah To Review Weather Situation In J&K At Civil Secretariat Srinagar

Srinagar, Jan 23: In view of the prevailing extreme weather conditions and snowfall across the Kashmir Valley, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah will interact with senior officers at the Civil Secretariat in Srinagar today to assess the overall situation in Jammu and Kashmir.
A close government functionary said that the Chief Minister will take a detailed review of the impact caused by snowfall and harsh weather since yesterday evening.
During the meeting, he will seek immediate updates on restoration efforts related to essential services, including power supply, drinking water, road connectivity and other basic facilities affected due to snow accumulation and gusty winds across Jammu and Kashmir.
Officials will brief the Chief Minister on the ground situation and the progress of restoration works.
Based on the updates, the Chief Minister is expected to issue necessary directions to ensure a swift and effective administrative response to address public inconvenience.
According to the office of the Chief Minister, the Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) has reported a massive disruption in electricity supply. The active power load in the Kashmir Valley has dropped to less than 100 megawatts, compared to the normal requirement of around 1700 megawatts. This sharp decline is mainly due to the outage of almost all 33 kV feeders, including those supplying power to emergency services.
KPDCL officials informed that repair teams are working on the ground, but restoration efforts are being severely hampered by extensive tree fall on power lines and strong winds. While damage assessment has begun, it is expected to take time due to the continuing adverse weather conditions.
The Chief Minister will also hold consultations on the Budget 2026–27 with various stakeholders at the Civil Secretariat in Srinagar. These meetings will focus on gathering inputs and suggestions to shape the upcoming budget in line with public needs and development priorities. (KINS)
