JAMMU, Jan 22: The Vijeshwar Panchang 2026-27 was released by Dr. Arvind Karwani, Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner Migrants , at an impressive function organized by Pir Panchal here today.
The programme began with the chanting of Vedic hymns, considered sacred by the Kashmiri Pandit community. The hymns were rendered by artists from the Mata Bhadrakali Institute of Handicrafts and Handloom.
Relief Commissioner, Dr. Arvind Karwani was the chief guest on the occasion, while Ramesh Hangloo, president Pir Panchal, and Kuldeep Raina, president Kheer Bhawani Ashtapan Manzgam, were the guests of honour. The function was presided over by Avtar Jotshi, Editor Vijeshewar Panchang with Kiran Pandita, Director of Mata Bhadrakali Institute.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Karwani lauded the role of Jotshi Parivar for upholding religious and cultural values and for keeping the civilizational roots of Hinduism intact. He appreciated the responsibility of Radio Sharda, stating that it has been doing yeoman’s service since displacement by maintaining a strong cultural connect with the community.
Ramesh Hangloo highlighted the various activities undertaken by Radio Sharda, particularly its efforts in promoting Wanvoon (Vedic hymns) among the younger generation to preserve Kashmiri Pandit culture.
Avtar Jotshi remarked that this was the first time the Vijeshwar Panchang was released amidst the chanting of Vedic hymns, and he commended the women performers for their valuable contribution. Kuldeep Raina and Kiran Pandita also addressed the gathering.
On the occasion, Pushkar Nath Raina was honored by Pir Panchal Organization and Radio Sharda for his selfless services in promoting Wanvoon among generations within the displaced community.
Pir Panchal also felicitated 40 women artisans with cash awards for their contribution to preserving art and craft under the leadership of Smt. Kiran Pandita.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by N. J. Pandita.
