Srinagar, Jan 20: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and spokesperson Altaf Thakur today launched a sharp attack on Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti over her demand to grant divisional status to Doda, Rajouri and Poonch, describing it as “deeply conspiratorial, divisive and anti-national.”
In a statement, Thakur alleged that the demand “mirrors the long-standing strategy of Pakistan’s ISI” and has nothing to do with development, governance or public welfare.
Instead, he said, it is a calculated political move aimed at undermining the historical, cultural and administrative unity of the Jammu region.
“Mehbooba Mufti is not speaking for the people of erstwhile Doda, Rajouri and Poonch. She is echoing the language of Pakistan and its ISI, which has long sought to create a so-called ‘Greater Kashmir’ by gradually absorbing Jammu’s Muslim-majority areas into Kashmir. This is a dangerous experiment with India’s sovereignty,” Thakur said.
Questioning the selective nature of the demand, he asked why separate divisions could not be considered for regions such as Marz and Kmaraz along with Central Kashmir, if administrative decentralisation was the real objective.
Reaffirming the BJP’s commitment to balanced regional development, equitable administration and national unity, Thakur warned the PDP against pursuing agendas that threaten India’s integrity.
