JAMMU, Jan 18: A delegation led by social activist Dr Dev Raj Sharma today met Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and raised the long-pending demand for the upgradation of Government High School (GHS) Nomain to the level of 10+2.
During the meeting, the delegation comprised Pt Suraj Prakash, former chairman of Panchayat Kotli Bajala, Om Prakash, Hans Raj, Somraj and Vishal Sharma, apprised the LG about the difficulties being faced by students of Nomain and adjoining areas due to the absence of a higher secondary school.
They highlighted that after passing Class 10, students are compelled to travel long distances to pursue further studies, causing financial strain on families and increasing the risk of dropouts, especially among girl students.
LG gave a patient hearing to the delegation and acknowledged the genuineness of their demand. He assured them that the matter would be examined sympathetically and necessary steps would be taken as per norms to address the issue in the larger interest of students and the local population.
