DODA, Jan 17: A 20-year-old degree college student allegedly committed suicide today at Pul Doda, triggering shock and grief across the area.
The deceased has been identified as Saba Banoo, daughter of Bashir Ahmed and a resident of Pooti, Kastigarh. She was appearing in her first-semester examination when she was reportedly found using a mobile phone inside the examination hall.
According to available information, a teacher confiscated her mobile phone along with her answer sheet and informed her about possible disciplinary action, including a ban from appearing in examinations or seeking admission for up to five years.
Sources said she was asked to leave the examination hall around 2:30 pm. Shortly after leaving the college premises, Saba Banoo allegedly went to Pul Doda and jumped into the River Chenab, resulting in her death.
Police have taken cognizance of the matter and initiated an investigation to ascertain the exact sequence of events.
