Rajouri, Jan 12: An ancient idol that had gone missing from the Kallar area of Rajouri was recovered late Sunday night and found restored to its original location under the cover of darkness, following swift action by the Rajouri Police amid strong public resentment and protests by Hindu organizations.
The idol, which was discovered around five days ago, reportedly went missing on Sunday, triggering widespread concern and anger among members of the Hindu community. Several Hindu organizations expressed strong resentment over the incident and warned of a complete blockade of the Jammu-Rajouri national highway if the idol was not recovered by 11:00 am on Monday.
In view of the mounting tension, Rajouri Police swung into action and detained three to four suspects for questioning during the night. Subsequently, sometime between Sunday night and early Monday, the idol was placed back at the same spot from where it had allegedly been removed.
