Srinagar, Jan 10: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) today arrested a Patwari in district Budgam for demanding and accepting a bribe.
In a statement issued here, the ACB said it arrested Riyaz Ahmad Khan, Patwari of Halqa Rakh Soothu, Budgam, for demanding and accepting a bribe amount of Rs 10,000.
As per the details, the Bureau received a written complaint in which the complainant alleged that he had applied before the concerned Revenue authorities for the issuance of a revenue extract and a bank lien certificate for a property situated at Rakh Soothu BK Pora for a bank guarantee.
For obtaining these documents, the Bureau said, the complainant approached the concerned Patwari, namely Riyaz Ahmad Khan.
“But instead of processing the case in due manner, the concerned patwari demanded bribe of Rs 10,000 / 30,000 before he would prepare and provide the required documents,” the Bureau said.
The complainant, stating that he is against corruption, approached ACB Srinagar seeking legal action against the accused official.
On receipt of the complaint, the Bureau said discreet verification was conducted, which confirmed the demand for a bribe by the accused public servant.
Accordingly, Case FIR No. 02/2026 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 was registered at Police Station ACB Srinagar, and the investigation was taken up.
During the course of the investigation, the Bureau said a trap team was constituted, which laid a successful trap and caught the accused red-handed while demanding and accepting a bribe amount of Rs 10,000 from the complainant.
“After completing all necessary medico-legal formalities, the accused Public Servant was taken into custody. Further investigation is going on,” the Bureau said.
