JAMMU, Jan 9: Jhajjar Kotli Police has successfully foiled two separate attempts of bovine smuggling during the intervening night of January 8 and 9, rescuing eight bovine animals and seizing two vehicles used for their illegal transportation.
Acting on specific inputs, a police team from Police Station Jhajjar Kotli intercepted two Mahindra load carrier vehicles bearing registration numbers JK19A-3092 and JK19A-5734. Upon checking, the vehicles were found to be transporting bovine animals illegally in violation of existing laws.
The drivers of the seized vehicles were apprehended on the spot and identified as Mohd Ashraf Bhat, son of Mohd Jamal Bhat, a resident of Magham, Tehsil Kokernag, District Anantnag, and Javed Ahmed Kasana, son of Abdul Qayoom, a resident of Qazigund Bakerwal Chak, Tehsil Dooru, District Anantnag. Both accused were taken into police custody for their alleged involvement in bovine smuggling.
Following the seizures, the police registered two separate cases-FIR Number 04/2026 and FIR Number 05/2026-under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (PCA) Act at Police Station Jhajjar Kotli.
