NEW DELHI, Jan 8 : The Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) and Shiromani Akali Dal on Thursday filed criminal complaints against Aam Aadmi Party leader Atishi, accusing her of making derogatory remarks against Sikh Gurus and hurting the sentiments of the Sikh community.
The DSGMC, in a complaint addressed to the Police Commissioner and officials of Parliament Street Police Station, sought registration of an FIR against Atishi for what it described as a deliberate and intentional act that allegedly insulted Sikh religious sentiments.
The DSGMC said it is a statutory body established under the Delhi Sikh Gurdwaras Act, 1971, and is responsible for managing historic gurdwaras and institutions linked to the Sikh community. It stated that the remarks allegedly made by Atishi during a discussion related to honouring Sikh Gurus caused serious hurt to the sentiments of Sikhs in India and abroad.
According to the complaint, the objectionable statement was made on January 6, 2026. The DSGMC has enclosed a video recording and a written version of the statement, requesting the police to treat these as the basis for registering an FIR.
The committee said it has deliberately not reproduced the contents of the alleged statement in the complaint, claiming that the remarks are against the Sikh religion and deeply offensive.
Separately, the Shiromani Akali Dal (Delhi Unit) has also filed a complaint at Parliament Street Police Station seeking registration of an FIR against Atishi, who is the Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly. The complaint has been filed under Section 299 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, alleging that her remarks in the Assembly hurt Sikh religious sentiments. The party has demanded prompt legal action and a thorough investigation.
A copy of the DSGMC complaint has also been sent to the Speaker of the Delhi Assembly for information and further action as per law. The DSGMC urged immediate legal action to ensure that the rule of law is maintained.
