JAMMU, Jan 5: J&K Unit of Bahujan Samaj Party has decided to observe January 15, the birthday of BSP National president Kumari Mayawati as `Jan Kalyan Divas’.
The monthly meeting of the BSP, Jammu & Kashmir unit was held in Jammu today and marked a significant step towards strengthening the party at the grassroot level and sharpening its focus on public-centric issues.
Senior leaders from the Centre and Union Territory unit participated in detailed deliberations on organisational preparedness, district-level coordination, and emerging concerns of Dalits, landless families, backward classes, and other marginalised sections of society.
A resolution adopted in the meeting was to observe January 15, the birthday of BSP National president Kumari Mayawati, as Jan Kalyan Divas across Jammu & Kashmir. The observance will include programmes dedicated to public welfare, social justice, and constitutional awareness, reaffirming the BSP’s ideological commitment to the principles laid down by Dr BR Ambedkar and the vision of an inclusive welfare state.
Addressing the gathering, Central Coordinator Nittan Singh forcefully raised the issue of land rights, asserting that disputes related to government land must be resolved in a humane, just, and people-friendly manner. He stressed that long-settled poor families, landless citizens, Dalits, and marginalised communities should not be treated as encroachers but as stakeholders whose dignity and livelihood must be protected.
Presiding over the meeting, Darshan Rana called upon party leaders and workers to intensify mass contact programmes and expand the organisational base in every district of the Union Territory. The meeting concluded with a collective resolve to strengthen the BSP’s presence on the ground, uphold constitutional values, and work relentlessly for Bahujan Samaj.
