MLAs discuss crucial matters with leadership

JAMMU, Jan 4: BJP will raise the issues concerning the public in the forthcoming Assembly session forcefully and will put Government on mat for its failure in fulfilling the poll promises made with the people of UT during the last Assembly elections by National Conference (NC) party.

The party sources told Excelsior that BJP legislators will take a tough stance in the Assembly during the coming session on the vital issues concerning the people of J&K especially Jammu region where from party has got 29 Assembly seats.
The party legislators led by former Minister and MLA, Samba Surjit Singh Salathia who held a meeting at BJP Office here today under the chairmanship of party president and MP Rajya Sabha Sat Sharma CA to review the forthcoming Assembly Session to begin from February 2 discussed key political, organisational and public issues.
Sources said that prior to Assembly Session one day training workshop will be held for legislators here which will be attended by some senior national and UT leaders. During the training session a strategy will be adopted by the party legislators for the forthcoming Assembly session, sources added.
During today’s meeting the party leadership in categorical terms told legislators that the ruling party has failed to implement its poll promises and BJP should make it a public issue even from today.
They were asked to take up the issue with the public in their respective constituencies. The Party also demanded that Rs 1430 crore Central package sanctioned by Prime Minister for reconstruction of damaged infrastructure during recent floods in J&K should be utilised properly. It said the Jammu region suffered huge devastation and destruction during last year’s flood and cloudbursts so the utilisation of funds should be in a proper and transparent manner.
Sources said in the meeting Legislators showed concern that earlier Rs 10 crore sanctioned for each flood hit district in the UT by Centre were also extended to Kashmir valley where there was no loss by floods while the Jammu region was totally affected.
The Legislators were asked by the leadership to take up the issue of Centre’s special package for flood hit areas of Jammu with people and apprise them that this package has been sanctioned by Narendra Modi Government and also apprise them of the benefits of new RAMJI Bill passed by the Parliament replacing the MGNEREGA.
A party handout said that the Jammu & Kashmir Bharatiya Janata Party, under the leadership of senior party functionaries, held an important meeting of BJP MLAs at the party Headquarters, Trikuta Nagar, here, to review the forthcoming Assembly Session and discuss key political, organizational, and public issues.
J&K BJP president and MP Sat Sharma chaired the meeting, which was also addressed by general secretary (Organization), Ashok Koul. BJP MLAs, led by Surjit Singh Salathia, participated in the meeting, which was attended by all BJP legislators.
While addressing the meeting, Sat Sharma emphasized that the forthcoming Assembly Session holds critical importance for raising the genuine concerns of the people of Jammu & Kashmir. He asked the BJP MLAs to aggressively question the government and ensure that issues affecting common citizens are forcefully and effectively presented on the floor of the House. He also highlighted the need to remain vigilant on recently surfaced socio-political issues in Jammu & Kashmir. He stressed the need for increased pravas by MLAs, urging them to remain constantly among the people, listen to their problems firsthand, and ensure swift redressal.
Sat Sharma also hailed the Centre’s Rs1430 crore relief package announced to address the losses caused by incessant rains and flash floods in multiple districts of the Jammu region, stating that the liberal assistance reflects the Modi Government’s deep commitment to healing the wounds of the affected families.
Ashok Koul, while addressing the legislators, focused on organizational strength and discipline. He stressed that BJP MLAs must play an active and continuous role in strengthening the party structure at the grassroots level. He underlined the importance of enhanced coordination between elected representatives and party workers, calling for daily interaction to ensure that the organization remains responsive, united, and people-centric.
Surjit Singh Salathia said that BJP legislators are fully prepared to take up both constituency-specific issues and broader matters concerning the entire Union Territory during the Assembly Session. He added that strong public connect and effective representation are the hallmarks of BJP’s governance philosophy.
During the meeting, MLAs also discussed the issues related to their particular Assembly constituencies besides taking up and discussing the broader issues concerning whole of Jammu and Kashmir.
