Police, Forest Deptt foil Khair wood smuggling attempt

JAMMU, Dec 30: Jammu (Rural) Police, in coordination with the Forest Department, foiled an attempt to illegally transport Khair wood and seized a consignment during a joint operation in the Gharota area.
Acting on specific inputs, a joint team from Police Station Gharota and the Forest Department carried out a checking operation during the intervening night of December 28 and 29, at Sarote village, Gharota. During the operation, two camels were intercepted and found carrying Khair wood weighing approximately 10 to 15 quintals, allegedly being smuggled for commercial purposes.
The illegally transported Khair wood along with the camels was seized after completing all necessary legal formalities. A report in the matter has been entered at Police Station Gharota.
The seized property will be handed over to the Forest Department for further proceedings under the relevant provisions of the Forest Act.
