JAMMU, Dec 25: The Jammu & Kashmir Teachers Forum, affiliated with AISTF, today held an important meeting at Jammu under the leadership of its UT President, Mohammad Ashraf Sheikh, to deliberate upon the serious concerns arising out of the recently imposed Bridge Course on teachers in Jammu & Kashmir.
Participants expressed strong resentment over the unilateral imposition of the Bridge Course without proper consultation with stakeholders and without due consideration of the unique recruitment mechanism and service conditions prevailing in J&K.
Addressing the gathering, Mohammad Ashraf Sheikh categorically stated that teachers in Jammu & Kashmir have not been appointed under any NCTE notification and therefore, enforcing a Bridge Course framed with reference to recruitment rules of other States is unjustified, arbitrary, and discriminatory.
Sheikh further informed the gathering that the JKTF leadership has already submitted detailed representations and objections to all competent authorities, including SCERT, NIOS, Secretary School Education Department, and the Minister for School Education. He reiterated that forcing in-service teachers to undergo such courses not only demoralizes the teaching fraternity but also adversely impacts the academic environment.
The Forum resolved to continue its struggle through democratic and constitutional means to safeguard the dignity, service rights, and professional interests of teachers.
The meeting concluded with a strong appeal to the Government to formally resolve the issue by withdrawing the Bridge Course order and initiating a meaningful dialogue with genuine teacher representatives in the larger interest of education and students.
The meeting was attended by Vickee Pandita, Aakash Bharti, Ramesh Kumar, Nawaz Ahmad Bhat, Nadeem Ahmad, Suresh Gupta, Deepa Kumari, Mohd Hafeez, Rubina Akhter, Neelam Kumari, Nawaz Ahmed, Riaz Ahmed, Deepak Kumar, Zakar Hussain, Bhushan Kumar, Shamsher Chand, Raj Kumar, Mohit Thakur, Gagandeep Singh, Mukhtyar Mohd, Parshotam Lal, Raki Gupta, Rakesh Sharma, Bhola Nath Sharma, Altaf Hussaini, Talib Hussain, Zubir Ahmed Khandey and others.
