JAMMU, Dec 24: The Department of Culture of the Government of Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir today singled a memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Culture, Government of India on the flagship initiative “Gyan Bhartam,” on safeguarding India’s invaluable manuscript heritage for future generations.
Principal Secretary, Culture, Government of Jammu and Kashmir, Brij Mohan Sharma and Director Ministry of Culture, “Gyan Bhartam’ Mission, Government of India, Inderjeet signed and exchanged the document/MOU, in presence of several other officials of the Ministry in New Delhi today.
As per MoU, like other states and UTs, the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, will join hand with the Ministry of Culture’s flagship initiative “ Gyan Bharatm” in safeguarding India’s invaluable manuscript heritage for future generations.
As per guidelines, the States and UTs have been requested to designate a Nodal Department/ Officer to lead all manuscript heritage activities and support upcoming nationwide survey and integrate data into the national digital repository; establish State Manuscript Heritage Councils for planning and implementation; institute state-level awards/fellowships, encourage volunteer participation under the Manuscript Sevaka, Initiative and promote public awareness campaigns including ‘Har Ghar Dastak’.
