Apple and sand Santa Claus sculpture unveiled at Puri beach

PURI, Dec 24 : Renowned sand artist and Padma Shri awardee Sudarsan Pattnaik has created the world’s largest Apple and Sand installation of Santa Claus at Niladri Beach, Puri, in an attempt to set a new world record. The magnificent sculpture carries the inspiring message of “World Peace” along with festive greetings of “Merry Christmas.”
The monumental artwork has been crafted using 1.5 tons of apples combined with sand, making it a unique blend of natural materials and creative expression.
Measuring 60 feet in length, 22 feet in height, and 45 feet in width, the installation drew huge crowds and admiration from tourists and visitors celebrating Christmas at the iconic beach.
Pattnaik created the sculpture with the support of 30 students from his Sand Art Institute on the occasion of the 22nd Puri Sand Art Festival, which began on Wednesday and will continue until January 1.
The festival was inaugurated by a familiar local figure, Poornachandra Sahoo, popularly known as “Mitu Chai,” a well-known tea seller at Puri Beach.
Speaking on the occasion, Pattnaik said the artwork was designed to spread a message of peace, happiness, and global unity during the festive season. He added that an official attempt has been made to register a new world record with the World Records Book of India for the Apple and Sand installation.
Apples used in the sculpture will be distributed as gifts. Pattnaik, who has participated in over 65 international sand sculpture championships and festivals, has won numerous awards while representing India on the global stage.
