JAMMU, Dec 24: The Regional Transport Officer, Jammu, has issued a public notice directing owners of motor vehicles bearing registration numbers of other States or Union Territories and plying in the Jammu Division beyond the permitted period to apply for re-registration immediately.
The notice states that keeping such vehicles in Jammu for more than 12 months without re-registration violates Section 47 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, and poses risks to regulation, vehicle traceability and public safety.
As such, the vehicle owners have been given 15 days from the date of issuance of the notice to obtain a new registration mark from the competent authority, failing which the vehicles will be liable for seizure, detention, penalties and other legal action under the Motor Vehicles Act and relevant rules.
