JAMMU, Dec 22: The Indian Institute of Technology Jammu hosted 50 students along with their escorts from Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Reasi, GHSS Reasi, and GHSS Aghar Jitto Reasi for an educational outreach visit under the Vigyan Jyoti Scheme.
The scheme aims to encourage meritorious girl students to pursue education and careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
The educational visit was organized by the Department of Outreach and Skill Development, IIT Jammu, for students of Classes XI and XII from both Medical and Non-Medical streams, under the guidance and support of Director, IIT Jammu, Prof Manoj Singh Gaur; Dean, Outreach and Skill Development, Prof Meenakshi Rajeev; and Associate Dean, Dr Sameer K S Pachalla.
During the visit, students explored state-of-the-art laboratories in the Departments of Civil Engineering and Electrical Engineering, where engineers, and technical staff provided hands-on demonstrations. The sessions introduced students to key scientific concepts related to construction materials, civil structures and practical applications of signals and electric current.
An interactive session was conducted by Dr Sarada Prasad Gochhayat, faculty member from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, who encouraged students to draw inspiration from the lives of eminent scientists and innovators. He emphasized curiosity-driven learning and highlighted the real-world relevance of scientific concepts. The session also offered insights into emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, motivating students to explore innovation, problem-solving, and future career opportunities in technology-driven fields.
The educational visit concluded with an engaging question-and-answer session, leaving students inspired and better informed about opportunities in higher education and STEM disciplines.
