JAMMU, Dec 21: Faculty of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University presented report on the modification and landscaping of Chaka Nadi Ghat, Martand, Matan, Kashmir, during technical session of a workshop, organized by the Directorate of Archaeology, Archives and Museums (DAAM).
Abhiney Gupta, Head, SoALD, and Navin Gupta, Associate Head, SoALD, shared their professional and academic insights related to heritage conservation, site-responsive design, and DPR preparation.
They highlighted how direct engagement with the site helps designers understand topography, natural drainage, ecological context, cultural practices, user behavior, existing materials, textures, spatial character, visual axis and experiential qualities of the place. It was stressed that desk-based design without immersive site understanding often leads to insensitive and impractical outcomes.
A major focus of the session was on how local culture, traditions, and rituals influence architectural and landscape design. The speakers highlighted that design should evolve from the spirit of the place (genius loci) rather than imposing alien design languages.
