JAMMU, Dec 21: The 136th birth anniversary of Justice Mehr Chand Mahajan was celebrated today with solemnity and fervour by Mahajan Sabha Gandhi Nagar as well as Mahajan Sabha Channi Himmat.
The programme by Mahajan Sabha Gandhi Nagar was organized at Mehr Chand Mahajan Park, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu. Addressing the gathering, Jugal Mahajan, chief patron of Mahajan Sabha Gandhi Nagar, called upon the people to emulate the values and principles of justice, nationalism, simplicity and social reform which Justice Mehr Chand Mahajan pursued throughout his life.
Noted columnist and social activist Ravi Rohmetra described Justice Mehr Chand s a great patriot whose wisdom and foresight played a decisive role in J&K becoming an integral part of India.
Speaking on the occasion, Prem Gupta, IGP (Retired), Jagdish Vaid, president Gandhi Nagar Mahajan Sabha, and P C Gupta, general secretary of the Sabha, threw light on the life history of Justice Mehr Chand Mahajan.
Retired IAS officer K B Jandiyal and former Corporator Gandhi Nagar, Bhanu Mahajan, also spoke on the occasion.
Those present on the occasion included Dr Dinesh Gupta, secretary, Home for Aged and Infirm, Amphalla Jammu, Raghvir Gupta, Dr R K Gupta (senior vice president), N K Gupta, Raman Mahajan, Romesh Rohmetra, Raj Pal Gupta, Ravi Gupta, Sanjay Saraf, Anil Gupta, Veena Mahajan and several others.
Meanwhile, to mark the occasion, Mahajan Sabha Channi Himmat organized a grand ‘Mahajan Parivar Milan’ programme.
The event was graced by the Member of Parliament, Jugal Kishore Sharma, as the chief guest, while Arvind Gupta and Rajinder Motilal were present as guests of honour. The programme was held under the presidentship of Vipan Gupta, president, Mahajan Sabha Channi Himmat.
Addressing the gathering, Jugal Kishore Sharma emphasized the importance of community unity, social responsibility, and cultural values, stating that organizations like Mahajan Sabha play a vital role in preserving the social fabric and promoting collective welfare.
Guest of honours, Arvind Gupta and Rajinder Motilal highlighted the importance of community interaction in fostering mutual understanding and cooperation.
In his address, Vipan Gupta made several significant announcements for the welfare of the Mahajan community. He promised the construction of a 3,000 square feet community hall, equipped with all related facilities, to be dedicated in the name of Justice Mehr Chand Mahajan.
During the programme, meritorious students, professionals who have excelled in their respective fields, and distinguished dignitaries from the Mahajan society were honoured in recognition of their achievements and contributions.
Ashok Jandyal (chairman) Ashok Gupta (general secretary), Mohan Gupta (vice president), Ankit Gupta (publicity secretary), Pankaj Gupta (secretary), Anil Gupta (joint secretary), Vishavdeep Gupta (treasurer) and Kushwinder Gupta (Matrimonial incharge) were also present on the occasion.
