JAMMU, Dec 20: J&K BJP spokesperson, Zorawar Singh Jamwal today flayed Congress and its alliance partners for spreading false and misleading narrative across the country over Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
Addressing senior BJP leaders in Reasi, Jamwal alleged that opposition’s campaign against SIR stems from political frustration following repeated electoral setbacks.
District BJP president, Reasi, Rohit Dubey; MLA, SMVD, Katra, Baldev Sharma; MLA, Reasi, Kuldip Raj Dubey; DDC Katra, Rajinder Mengi; DDC, Arnas, Abdul Rashid along with BJP Mandal and Morcha presidents attended the meeting.
Speaking on the occasion, Jamwal claimed that Congress has become politically bankrupt after people’s mandate has consistently gone against it and its allies.
He questioned how Jawaharlal Nehru became the first PM of India despite having the support of only two votes out of a total of 30 and asked the Congress to justify the controversial 1971 election of former PM Indira Gandhi.
Clarifying the BJP’s stand on SIR, Zorawar asserted that the exercise is neither new nor a BJP initiative.
He further stated that SIR was conducted only once during the Atal Bihari Vajpayee-led NDA government between 2002 and 2004, which, according to him, exposes the hollowness of the Congress and INDIA bloc’s allegations.
Accusing the Congress of avoiding discussions, Jamwal said the BJP has consistently participated in debates on SIR, both in Parliament and in public, while the Congress has been running away from meaningful engagement.
