Police attach property of drug peddler

Srinagar, Dec 18: Police in Srinagar today attached a double-storey residential house along with 12.5 marlas of land, valued at approximately Rs 1.6 crore, belonging to a notorious drug peddler.
A police spokesman in a statement said that the attachment was carried out by Police Station Nowgam in connection with FIR No. 128/2022 registered under Sections 8/22-29 of the NDPS Act at PS Nowgam, wherein a substantial quantity of Codeine bottles was recovered from the accused Liyaqat Ali Bhat son of Bashir Ahmad Bhat resident of Auqaf Chowk, Kenihama, Nowgam, Srinagar.
“During the course of investigation, it was established that the said property had been acquired through illegal proceeds generated from narcotics trafficking. Consequently, the property was attached under Section 68-F of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, after obtaining due approval from the competent authority.”
“The attachment proceedings were conducted in the presence of the Executive Magistrate First Class, BK Pora, along with independent witnesses, strictly in accordance with the prescribed legal procedure.”
In the meantime, Police in Shopian seized a huge quantity of contraband substances from residential houses in Thiaran Kandi Keller area of Shopian.
The spokesman said that acting on specific information, Police Station Keller registered a case under FIR No. 52/2025 under NDPS Act and obtained a search warrant from the competent authority. “A team from Police Station Keller accompanied by the Executive Magistrate 1st Class, raided the residential premises of Mohd Shafi Khanday resident of Thraina Kandi Keller.”
During the search, 10.283 kgs of Cannabis-like substance was recovered from the house yard and accordingly seized. Similarly, 1.582Kgs of Crushed Cannabis-like substance was recovered from the residential premises of Irshad Ahmad Khanday resident of Thraina Kandi Keller and the same was seized, accused arrested. Further investigation is underway.
