Finance Deptt flags queries on 30-bed Emergency units in GMCs

JAMMU, Dec 17: Health and Medical Education Department has sought detailed clarifications from the Principals of Government Medical Colleges (GMCs) in Jammu and Kashmir regarding the proposed establishment of 30-bedded Emergency Medicine Departments.
Acting on observations raised by the Finance Department, the GMCs have been asked to furnish specific information to facilitate further processing of the proposal. The information has been sought to assess staffing requirements and operational viability of the proposed emergency units.
The Department has sought clarity on the pay levels of non-gazetted posts proposed to be created, in line with the 7th Pay Commission norms. It has also asked for a clear justification for creating the post of Junior Assistant in the Emergency Medicine Department. Further, the GMCs have been directed to clarify the classification of the Phlebotomist post, particularly whether it falls under the Class-IV (MTS) category.
In addition, the institutions have been asked to submit OPD and IPD workload data for the year 2024–25, along with details of emergency cases availing ambulance services in their respective districts during the same period.
