JAMMU, Dec 16: On the occasion of Vijay Diwas today, Lt Gen Pratik Sharma, Army Commander Northern Command, paid rich tributes to the brave soldiers of the Indian Armed Forces who fought in the 1971 Indo-Pak war.
He laid a wreath in honour of the war heroes who displayed extraordinary courage and made the supreme sacrifice for the nation.
The wreath-laying ceremony was held in Udhampur town in a solemn and respectful atmosphere, reflecting the nation’s gratitude to its soldiers who safeguarded India’s sovereignty and integrity.
Remembering the historic victory of 1971, Lt Gen Sharma highlighted the bravery, professionalism and dedication of the Armed Forces, which played a decisive role in shaping history and strengthening India’s position on the global stage.
During the event, the Army Commander interacted with war veterans and expressed admiration for their selfless service.
He said their courage, discipline and commitment continue to inspire serving soldiers and future generations of the Indian Army.
Lt Gen Sharma also stressed the need to preserve and pass on the legacy of the 1971 war heroes to the youth, so that the values of patriotism, unity and national service remain strong.
He reaffirmed the Indian Army’s unwavering commitment to protecting the nation and honouring the sacrifices of its brave warriors.
The Vijay Diwas commemorations concluded with a renewed pledge to uphold the ideals for which the 1971 war heroes fought, reinforcing the enduring bond between the nation, its Armed Forces and its veterans.
