SRINAGAR, Dec 15: Police in Srinagar have registered a case against a social media content creator for allegedly spreading misinformation regarding the 4th National Lok Adalat, resulting in public confusion and an unexpected gathering of people.
Officials said that the individual circulated a video on social media platforms claiming that electricity bills and traffic challans would be waived during the Lok Adalat.
The video, titled “Bijli Bill Maaf, Challan Maaf, Lok Adalat 13 Dec, jis ko bhi bijli bakayat ho woh Lok Adalat ka rukh kare,” went viral, prompting a large number of people to reach the venue expecting relief.
However, officials clarified that the claims made in the video were false.
Taking note of the misleading content and the situation it created, the District Legal Services Authorities informed the police, following which legal action was initiated.
An FIR (No. 94/2025) has been registered at Batamaloo Police Station under Sections 353 and 292 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against the administrator of a Facebook page named ‘Zi Vlogs 72’.
The accused has been identified as a resident of Budgam district.
Officials said the misinformation not only misled the public but also disrupted the planned proceedings of the Lok Adalat, forcing the authorities to reassess arrangements at the venue.
Police said the investigation in the matter is underway.
