POONCH, Dec 14: Ghulam Ahmed Ganai Memorial Sub District Hospital, Mandi in district Poonch is running without specialist doctors from the last many years due to which residents of whole Tehsil with population of around 1.20 lakh are suffering badly.
Information revealed that despite having sanctioned posts in Mandi hospital, there is no Surgeon, Physician, Gynaecologist, Anesthetic, Pediatrician and Dental Surgeon due to which patients are compelled to visit Raja Sukhdev Singh District Hospital, Poonch for treatment.
In SDH Mandi only six Medical Officers are available including one NHM doctor against the available vacancies of seven sanctioned posts, one MO’s post in also vacant in this Hospital. The hospital is having a new building constructed with Operation Theatre, which is also non-functional because of non-availability of specialist doctors.
Mushtaq Hussain, Tariq Manzoor, Bilal Ahmed, Mohd Rafiq, Altaf Ahmed, Abid Hussain and many other people from different areas of Mandi have expressed anger against the Government and Health department for neglecting the plight of thousands of people who are dependent on this hospital despite knowing the fact that people are poor in this region who face severe problems to reach District Hospital Poonch, demanding to fill up all the sanctioned posts at the earliest. They said that even the surgeries are not being conducted on alternate days as being managed in SDH Surankote, deputing doctors from District Hospital Poonch.
Pertinent to mention here that the locals from Mandi brought the matter to the notice of Health Minister, Sakina itoo three months ago and she assured to fill-up the specialist doctors posts but nothing in this regard has been done yet.
Meanwhile, a Surgeon and a Gyneacologist from District Hospital Poonch were transferred to Jammu recently without posting other doctors at their place despite the fact that Poonch is already facing the acute shortage of doctors. The locals from Mandi area have strongly demanded posting of epecialist doctors in this hospital.
