KATHUA, Dec 10; Kathua Police has arrested a youth wanted by Punjab police for his alleged involvement in a case registered under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) on Wednesday.
Police said the arrest was made from Macchedi area of Police Station (PS) Billawar. The arrest was made under the overall supervision of SSP, Kathua Ms. Mohita Sharma.
Police said Sajjad Malik , a resident of Lohai Malhar was arrested from Billawar area of Kathua and handed over to a police team from the Dera Bassi Police Station in Mohali, Punjab after completing all legal formalities.
Spokesman said an FIR had already been registered at PS Dera Bassi, Punjab in this regard.
Malik was wanted in a case registered at the Dera Bassi Police Station under Section 137 (2) (kidnapping) and Section 7 of the POCSO Act following a complaint from a neighbour from another community who on June 20, accused him of kidnapping his 16 year old sister , the spokesman said.
Earlier, he said that the Jammu and Kashmir police carried out raids within and outside JK including Delhi, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh and Punjab and after receiving a letter from their counterpart in Punjab.
Spokesperson said after a long hunt the accused was finally arrested from Machhedi village of Billawar and handed over to Punjab police after completion of all legal formalities for further investigation.
The arrest was made by a police team PS Billawar led by SHO Billawar, Inspector, Zaheer Mushtaq under the Supervision of SDPO, Billawar, Neeraj Kumar who raided at different locations and arrested the accused person Sajjad Malik, son of Altaf Hussain of tehsil Lohai Malhar at present Dadwara tehsil, Billawar district, Kathua.
