JAMMU, Dec 10: The Jammu-Samba-Kathua (JSK) Range Police today conducted a drug awareness programme at Village Janaka Dansal in Nagrota Sub-Division, bringing together hundreds of residents to strengthen the fight against narcotics and other social crimes.
The event was chaired by DIG JSK Range Shiv Kumar Sharma, accompanied by SP Rural Jammu, SDPO Nagrota, SHO Jhajjar Kotli and SHO Nagrota.
A statement said the programme was organised with the support of community members led by Choudhary Sharafat Ali Khatana, Daruloom Zakri, Haji Wahid, Haji Sadiq and Rayaz Paswal.
Around 450 to 500 residents from Janaka Dansal and nearby areas participated, it said.
Addressing the gathering, the DIG highlighted the steps taken by Jammu and Kashmir Police to curb drug abuse and related crimes.
He urged people to cooperate with police in identifying drug peddlers, bootleggers and other anti-social elements.
He also said that anyone battling drug addiction can seek free help and treatment at the Police Drug De-addiction Centre in Jammu.
The DIG advised students to focus on studies, participate in sports and cultural activities, and avoid negative influences.
He warned drug peddlers to stop their activities, asserting that strict legal action would follow.
“Youth are the backbone of the nation, and it is vital to keep them aware and protected from drug abuse,” he added.
Residents were encouraged to immediately share information about drug peddlers or other criminal activities with the nearest Police Station or Police Post.
During the programme, the DIG also facilitated talented students and youths of the village, urging others to draw inspiration from their achievements.
