A police official said that Javeed Ahmad Mir alias Javeed Nalka, son of Mohammad Yousuf Mir and a resident of Zaina Kadal, Srinagar, was arrested by Shergari Police today.
The official said that Mir was wanted for his alleged involvement in a decades-old militancy-related case registered at Police Station Shergari.
He is accused in FIR No. 192/1996, registered under Sections 341, 148, 336, 332 of the RPC, 7/27 Arms Act, and Section 13 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, dating back to 17 July 1996.
Police said Mir has been detained at Police Station Shergari, where further legal proceedings are underway.
Before joining separatist political activities, Mir was commander in chief of banned JKLF in the early 1990s.

The Police official said that Mir and Bakshi along with others were accused of leading a large procession in July 1996, during which a mob carrying the body of slain militant Hilal Ahmad Beigh clashed with police at Naaz Crossing, Srinagar.
The mob allegedly indulged in stone pelting, rioting, and anti-India sloganeering, resulting in injuries to police personnel and damage to public property.

Mir and Bakshi, along with Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Abdul Gani Lone, Shabir Shah, Mohammad Yaqoob Wakeel and Nayeem Ahmad Khan, is accused of provoking the crowd and violating provisions of the Ranbir Penal Code, Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and the Arms Act.
