JAMMU, Dec 8: The Jonaraja Institute of Genocide and Atrocities Studies (JIGAS) has appointed Prof. Tito Ganju, its Founder and Former Chairman, as the Chief Patron of the Institute, with immediate effect.
The appointment recognizes Prof. Ganju’s pioneering role in establishing JIGAS as a dedicated platform for research, documentation, and critical engagement on genocide, ethnic cleansing, and civilizational atrocities. Under his leadership as Chairman, the Institute laid firm ideological and institutional foundations and emerged as a principled voice on genocide recognition, collective memory, and accountability.
Announcing the appointment, Sunanda Vashisht, Chairperson of JIGAS, stated, “Prof. Tito Ganju is not only the founder of this institution but also the conscience behind its vision. His appointment as Chief Patron ensures continuity of purpose and reaffirmation of the values on which JIGAS was conceived. His moral clarity and intellectual resolve remain central to our ongoing work.”
Dr. Dileep Kaul, Director of JIGAS, while welcoming the appointment, said, “Prof. Ganju’s guidance has always shaped the academic and ideological character of JIGAS. As Chief Patron, his role will be invaluable in mentoring scholars, strengthening our research framework, and advancing the Institute’s engagement at national and international levels.”
In his capacity as Chief Patron, Prof. Tito Ganju will serve as the highest moral and intellectual guide of the Institute, offering strategic counsel and safeguarding its foundational ethos.
