SRINAGAR, Dec 8: An overnight fire in the Munawarabad area of Srinagar gutted a furniture manufacturing unit today, causing extensive damage to the property.
The blaze broke out at around 10 PM last night and rapidly engulfed the double-story wooden structure, eyewitnesses said. They added that the unit was “reduced to ashes within minutes,” with flames also spreading to the workshop where large quantities of timber were stored, making firefighting operations difficult.

Fire and Emergency Services teams, assisted by police and local residents, battled the flames for several hours to prevent the fire from reaching nearby buildings. Officials said the presence of highly combustible wood inside the premises significantly hampered containment efforts.
Saad Zubair, who owns the manufacturing unit, said the entire facility was destroyed “within seven minutes” of the fire erupting. “We have suffered a loss of nearly Rs. 10 crore. We do not know the cause of the fire; it could be a short circuit,” he said.
