Srinagar, Dec 8: A 23-year-old woman died today after delivering a baby boy at the Maternity and Child Care Hospital (MCCH) in Anantnag, allegedly due to medical negligence, prompting authorities to order an inquiry into the incident.
According to the aggrieved family, the woman was admitted after developing severe health complications but was not provided timely medical attention despite her critical condition.
The deceased has been identified as Khushboo Jan, wife of Zubair Ahmad, a resident of Pushwara, Anantnag.

The family has accused the hospital staff of negligence, claiming that repeated pleas for urgent intervention were ignored, causing her condition to worsen.
“The first surgery was a failure, and then another one was done. We were asked to take her to the main hospital at Janglat Mandi. Later, there, we were told she had already died,” a family member said.
They alleged that Khushboo complained of severe pain after the first surgery, but the response from the medical staff remained inadequate.
“Doctors came and said she needed another surgery because there was an infection in her uterus. Then we do not know what happened. If this happened to her today, it can happen to someone else tomorrow. They make the poor suffer; we seek justice.” the family added.
The family has demanded a thorough probe and urged authorities to fix responsibility to prevent such incidents in the future.
Taking cognisance of the matter, the Health & Medical Education (H&ME) Department promptly ordered a high-level inquiry headed by the Principal of GMC Srinagar.
Prof. (Dr.) Iffat Hassan Shah, Principal, Government Medical College, Srinagar, has been appointed as Inquiry Officer.
Dr. Mushtaq Ahmed, Medical Superintendent of MCCH, has been directed to assist the Inquiry Officer. The report, along with recommendations, has been sought within 14 days.
