SRINAGAR, Dec 7: Night temperatures improved across Kashmir today but continued to remain below the freezing point at most places, with the Meteorological Department forecasting a brief spell of light snowfall in the higher reaches of north and central Kashmir on December 8.

However, despite the improvement in temperature, dense fog in several parts of the Valley caused low visibility and difficulties in movement during the early morning hours, affecting motorists and pedestrians.
The Meteorological Department Kashmir said Pahalgam in the south was the coldest place in Jammu and Kashmir with a minimum temperature of -4.3°C, which is 1.5°C below normal.
According to the MeT office, Srinagar recorded a minimum of -0.9°C, 0.3°C below normal, marking an improvement of 3.2°C from the previous night.
The department added that Qazigund, the gateway town to the Valley, recorded -1.0°C, while Kupwara in north Kashmir registered -0.8°C. The minimum temperature in Kokernag stood at 1.1°C, 1.7°C above normal.
In the popular ski resort of Gulmarg, the minimum temperature settled at -1.6°C, 2.0°C above normal, while Pulwama recorded -3.8°C, the department said.
MeT data showed that relative humidity reached 94% in Srinagar at 8:30 a.m., and no rainfall was reported at any major station across Jammu and Kashmir.
MeT said light snowfall is likely to fall in the higher reaches of north and central Kashmir on December 8.
